Color management is attracting attention as a means of eliminating the problems relating to color, which has been particularly troublesome in the printing and DTP industry. Vanfu has conducted research into color management and building of workflows for many years. This has realized development of a color management workflow comprising original methods, which is incorporated into Vanfu’s input/output and printing services. Vanfu believes that this system will be useful not only for color management applications inside Vanfu, but also for color management applications in companies that utilize Vanfu services. Vanfu will continue to carry out color management research and development in the future in order to develop even smoother color communications between the company and its customers.

1. DTP Workflow using RGB Data |
Previously, the submission of CMYK data was standard for printing and DTP applications. However, by setting the master data as RGB data, which is capable of expressing a wider range of colors than CMYK, Vanfu has realized a printing and DTP workflow that more faithfully expresses the hues of the original document or data. Through accepting image data in RGB format (or by scanning original documents in RGB format), and utilizing highly detailed ICC profiles prepared for each output machine and printer, Vanfu conducts output processing after converting the RGB data to the CMYK data that best matches the customer’s purpose. By this means, the degradation of color that occurs when converting RGB data to CMYK can be kept to a minimum, and it will be possible to realize output and printing that expresses the colors of the original document or data more faithfully and with a richer color expression.

Output” and “Full Gamut Output” |
Using a color printer that supports the color management output, RGB data received from the customer is output as two color types; the “Offset Printing Simulation Output” which has output colors that are close to the finished colors realized by Vanfu offset printing, and the “Full Gamut Output” that realizes rich color generation fully utilizing the color printer’s color expression capabilities. When requesting the printing work, customers may specify their desired output colors. (If no particular output color type is specified, Vanfu will normally produce the output using “Full Gamut Output”.)

Service |
| In order to convert the original document, on which the color management is based, into data that realizes more faithful representation, Vanfu has prepared drum scanners dedicated to RGB scanning exclusively for color management. These allow the incorporation of data with a wider color range than the limited range that could previously be incorporated using CMYK scanning. |

2. Customer Environment Color Management Operations Backup |
Vanfu provides backup that matches customers’ working environments for color management operations that were previously thought to require difficult know-how acquisition, high introduction costs, and difficult development. This backup allows smoother color communications to be conducted between Vanfu and customers.
Depending on the customer’s working environment and equipment used, the services may not always provide an adequate result. When utilizing these services, a system is used in which a prior investigation of the customer’s environment will be conducted by Vanfu dedicated staff before providing the service. Based on the result of this investigation, evaluation will be made of whether the customer may or may not use the service. Note that the fee for the prior investigation will be waived for users who have registered with Vanfu.

| In this service, Vanfu will calibrate monitors used by customers. Vanfu provides calibration for monitors to allow optimum color evaluation for printing and DTP work.

* Depending on the customer’s working environment and equipment used, the services may not always provide an adequate result. Accordingly, when utilizing the above services, a system is used in which a prior investigation of the customer’s environment will be conducted by Vanfu Technical Center staff before providing the services. Based on the result of this investigation, a meeting will be held with the customer and evaluation will be made of whether the customer may or may not use the service. A basic fee will apply for this operation.
Therefore, even in the situation where it will not finally be possible to utilize the service, the basic fee will still apply
